Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2016 , a week long international jazz music festival is taking place from tomorrow. This is the 14th edition of the Kathmandu Based Music Festival and this year festival features international musicians from USA, Australia, Germany, France, Cuba and Netherlands. The weeklong jazz jamboree has ensembled interesting combination of Nepali and International Artists. Jazzmandu 2016 has the motto of “Music for Unity, Peace and Compassion”.
This year’s bands include Rocket Men (Germany), Afuriko (France/Japan), Mn’JAM Experiment (The Netherlands), Ange Takats (Australia), Lyrics Born (USA), and Janysett McPherson (Cuba/France). Home grown artists Cadenza Collective, Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory and Nepal Army Jazz Orchestra, Rabin Lal Shrestha ensemble, Umesh Pandit, Manmohan Thapaliya and Gandharvas will also be joining them on the stage.
“We have been bringing the best international sound to Nepal,” says Navin Chhetri, artistic director of the event and the drummer and vocalist of Cadenza, who started organising the festival in 2002.
Throughout October 20 to October 26, the festival will see musical performances taking place in different venues around Kathmandu. Jazzmandu was started in 2002 by Candenza Collective’s Navin Chettri and Chhedup Bomzon of the Jazz Upstairs Bar. The main objective of conducting the jazz music jamboree in Nepal is to promote jazz music in Nepal and also to spread the message of global peace.
